Belinda's Favourite Festive Chicken Dishes

Christmas is such a wonderful time of year, especially for coming together to spend time with friends and family over good food! Below, I have collated my most favourite festive chicken recipes to see you through the Christmas season; from the perfect Christmassy roast, to warming spiced dishes and lighter options for when the over indulgence becomes a bit too much!

Our chickens are a perfect alternative to turkey on Christmas day, as whilst they are still big enough to feed at least 4-6 people, they aren’t anywhere near as much of an undertaking as the task of cooking a giant turkey. Whilst smaller groups may opt for a turkey crown, choosing a whole Sutton Hoo Chicken bird means you still have the benefits of being able to make a delicious stock rom the giblets and carcass, but don’t have to empty your entire freezer to fit it in! We may be biased, but we also think that our slow grown, free range chickens taste that much better than turkey too. It’s a win-win really.

Roasted Sutton Hoo Chicken with clementine, herbs and nutmeg stuffing

There's nothing better than a good roast Christmas dinner. This recipe is a wonderful way to roast your Sutton Hoo Chicken over the festive season with a seasonal touch of clementine.

Chicken in spiced red wine with sour cherries

This is a lovely chicken recipe with a touch of Christmas spice and the perfect dish to cook ahead so you can enjoy the moment too! The sour cherries add some extra festive flavour, and we love cooking this recipe as it fills the house with the divine aromas of Christmas and gets you in the mood for the holiday season. This is such a lovely full flavoured and hearty recipe it will bring a warm glow to any chilly day.

Sticky pomegranate chicken and honey roasted butternut squash

This sticky pomegranate chicken recipe is a tasty dish that is easy to prepare and one we think you'll truly love! The Asian inspired recipe is made with really simple ingredients and is great accompanied with rice. This is something I like to make during the week because it is so quick and easy to prepare. It is also a popular dish for dinner parties with friends and a meal that I have always received compliments on.

Roasted butternut squash soup

For a lighter option, or delicious as a warming lunch, why not try our roasted butternut squash soup? This is one of many soups you can make using chicken stock made from the left-over carcass from your Sutton Hoo roast, and a fantastic way to get the best value out of your chicken.

Roast chicken and stilton soup

This delicious roasted chicken and stilton soup is great for using up your Christmas leftovers on boxing day. Another lighter dish that makes for a wonderful and warming lunch with fresh, crusty bread. The smoked bacon and leftover roasted chicken taste absoultey divine with the added stilton, without being overly rich!

I hope you enjoy these dishes as much as my family do this time of year. Whether you’re having the whole family over for a big roast chicken dinner, or you’re spending some quality time with your other half over a meal, I hope these recipes inspire you to spend some time cooking together this Christmas.
