A Slow (Grown) Christmas

This festive season we are slowing down and taking our time to enjoy all the little moments of magic, as we prepare for Christmas.

Taking things slowly is in our nature, and we continue to be proud supporters of the Slow Food movement in the UK. Championing good quality produce, regional traditions, and a slow pace of life. The grassroots movement ties together a commitment to community and the environment, with the pleasure of enjoying food, an ethos we believe in.

Christmas this year will be a little slower than usual too, with less rushing around to parties and gathering, or wondering if you will have time to squeeze everything in.

There might also be fewer people around our tables come Christmas day and a Sutton Hoo Chicken might be the perfect choice this year. Because we use a slower growing breed of chicken, reared for 25% longer than free range chickens and 70% longer than standard indoor chicken, they tend to be larger in size and can feed up to six people – perfect if you are celebrating with a ‘Yule of Six’!

Although it might be a quieter Christmas this year, we think it is important to continue our family traditions and try to celebrate thoughtfully. Our top tips for this festive season are:

  • Make your festive food shop an enjoyable experience, rather that the usual rush, take the time to visit your local butcher and choose your food. Perhaps with fewer people to feed, it means more money to spend on higher quality produce, from butchers and farm shops, that will make your meals taste that much better! Find your local Sutton Hoo Chicken stockist here.

  • You might also like to take the time to support local shops with your Christmas shopping and try to take that more slowly too.

  • Really enjoy the lead up to Christmas, make a wreath or bake some delicious treats – whatever get into the holiday spirit. It is the little things in life that make the best memories.

  • Deck the halls and spread some cheer! Ensure you make the day feel special, Christmas will be unique for most of us, but it can still be the most wonderful time of the year.

  • Don’t forget to ‘Love Your Leftovers’! Enjoy making stock and taking the time to prepare delicious home cooked meals with any leftovers you may have.

This year has been such a contrast from ‘normal’ life, which is usually so rushed and stressful. It has encouraged us, as a society, to take a step back from the fast lane, slow down and appreciate the little things. Therefore, a slower Christmas is upon us, and we are ready to embrace it.
