The Dig at Sutton Hoo

Sutton Hoo is coming to a screen near you, with the exciting launch of the new film The Dig. Coming to Netflix on Friday 29th January, the film is based on the heart-warming and true story of the discovery of the ancient Anglo-Saxon burial ground in rural Suffolk.

We are proud to bear the name of this historic site, and when you choose a Sutton Hoo Chicken, you’re not just getting a free-range bird. Our chickens are slow-grown and can roam happily over 40 acres of Suffolk meadows surrounding the ancient burial mounds.

The film is based on the true story behind one of the biggest archaeological discoveries of all time and is historically accurate in reference to how it was discovered and the timings prior to the Second World War, in 1939. You can read up more on the historical story behind The Dig, on the National Trust website.

While we are all having to make the small things count, we have decided to make the release of The Dig a special occasion, we will be making a dish using Sutton Hoo Chicken followed by a night by the fire watching the new movie! There is certainly a lot of excitement around the release of The Dig, so why not do the same and purchase some Sutton Hoo Chicken at your local farm shop or butcher?

We also like to imagine that Lady Edith Pretty (played by Carey Mulligan) or Basil Brown (Ralph Fiennes) would have admired our free range birds during some of their filming and perhaps even tried one to get the full experience of what Sutton Hoo has to offer!
