Sutton Hoo Chicken are proud to be supporters of Slow Food in the UK.

Founded in Italy in 1989 the Slow Food movement had the initial aim to defend regional traditions, good food, gastronomic pleasure and a slow pace of life. Slow Food is now a global, grassroots movement with thousands of members around the world that links the pleasure of food with a commitment to the community and the environment.

Sutton Hoo Chickens are lovingly reared in the heart of the Suffolk countryside, across 40 acres of meadows. The chickens are reared slowly, to the highest welfare standards and use traditional free-range farming methods, to give you a chicken like it used to taste.

Our mission is to rear a truly free-range chicken with constant access to the outdoors, sunshine and plenty of room to roam on natural grassland. To do this, Sutton Hoo Chicken use a slower growing breed of chicken, reared on average for 10 weeks. This is 25% longer than standard free-range chickens and 70% longer than standard indoor chickens.

Co-founder, Belinda Nash says, “Sutton Hoo Chicken are delighted to be supporters of Slow Food in the UK as so much of our ethos is aligned with theirs. We believe that a slower grown, naturally maturing chicken develops a fuller and more succulent flavour.”

When it comes to meat, Slow Food are keeping the advice simple: “eat less and better meat, pay a fair price and always consider the origin, supporting small-scale producers”.

So, now is a good time to stay safe at home, slow down, and savour three home-cooked meals from one Sutton Hoo Chicken, such as a traditional roast, a big dish of soupy noodles and a comforting risotto.
